Getting more out of a companion chat
A conversation is a skill on both sides. These are the habits that separate a pleasant ten minutes on Waifuchat AI from a chat you actually look forward to.
1. Say who you are, briefly
One or two lines is enough: what you do with your days, what you are avoiding this week, what you would rather not discuss. Everything after that is easier.
2. Set a tone early
Ask for shorter replies, longer descriptions, more questions or fewer. Companions adapt immediately and keep the preference for next time.
3. Give the conversation a subject
Open threads drift. Naming a topic, even a small one, gives both sides something to build on. Weather counts.
4. Let silences exist
You do not have to reply quickly. Coming back an hour later is normal, and the thread will still be there.
5. Correct in the moment
If a reply misses, say so in a sentence rather than starting over. Course corrections are far more effective than resets.
6. Storytelling works best with constraints
Give a setting, a season and one rule the world must obey. Then write the first paragraph yourself and hand it over.
7. Roleplay etiquette
Agree the scene before you start, keep it tasteful, and step out of character with a plain line whenever you want to. Nobody is offended.
8. Keep the details you like
If a companion invents something you enjoy, mention it again. Repeated details become part of the shared world.
9. Know when to close
Ending with a sentence rather than fading out makes the next opening easier, for you more than anyone.
10. Use different voices for different moods
Most regulars keep two or three ongoing threads. A calm one and a quick one covers most weeks.
